The Book of Eli

The book of Eli is a story about an important book that everyone is searching for because they say that when you have this book, you can control a lot of people. The book resides with Eli who is on a mission to get this book on the West Coast of United States. It's setting was after the war and it had wiped out almost all the people. I did not know what the book was until the end of the movie. The book was a copy of the last bible on earth and as they say, this would control a lot of people. They did not reveal what the book was until the end of the movie because I guess to make the movie interesting. Who would be interested if they already know what the book was and more so if they knew it was the bible. They would wonder why the people would kill just for a piece of book. To add up to the mystery of the story, the book or the bible was not written in words but in brail, the language of the blind. So, whoever would read it can not read it unless they know how to read brail.

Denzel Washington was fit for his role and he did a good job. With his martial arts and his marksmanship, he was the guy for the role. The movie was nice but there was a point where it got boring. I guess it would help if the action scenes were more and a little less drama. But I guess with that kind of story, you could not do without a drama in it.

Overall, I liked the film and I liked how they hold the revelation of the book until the end of the movie. I somehow got an idea when Denzel Washington was telling Mila Kunis a verse from the book but I did not expect it to be the bible.

Leap Year

Leap Year is not your typical love story in which the plot is about a lady who is about to propose to his boyfriend and on the process of doing so, she meets this guy who is completely not her type but then falls for him. I guess if you're meant to be, you're meant to be, if not, then it's not your day. All I can say is that love happens in the most unexpected place, time or turn of events, you would not know it and you really can't prepare for it, you just need to be yourself when it comes.

The movie Leap Year has a different kind of story since it is the girl who will be the one to propose to her boyfriend not the other way around which we are used to. It is something new although it reflects some of the characteristics of other girls who are aggressive and the go getter. Amy Adams did a good job on her role because like the usual American girl, she is liberal so she does anything she wants to do. On Matthew Goode's part, I think it would have been nicer if the character Declan would be better of a more bad ass type not like him, although he has some attitude which I guess that pulled of character.

The setting was appropriate since how would Amy Adams fall for Matthew Goode if the setting would be in an urban area where there are lot of distractions. they needed a secluded place to be closer together and that there is no one to run to if there is trouble other than Matthew Goode. It would make him the hero all the time. The music added to the emotions so that every time they have an passionate or cheesy scene, it would get the audience somewhat feel what the characters are feeling in the film.

All in all, I liked the movie even though if it was a different kind of love story.

In Your Eyes

Overall, I can say that the movie is not that good compared with other Filipino films like One More Chance, etc. and that the story line was a bit confusing but nevertheless, the paper requires me to write about the “good” stuff of the film so it would be challenging to make this paper.

To start it of, one of the good traits of the movie is, that it had nice background music whenever there is a love scene either between Claudine Barretto and Richard Gutierrez or Anne Curtis and Richard Gutierrez. It had additional effect to the audience whenever they will have an intimate scene. I guess even though the movie is not that good, the characters’ acting together with the background music make the film more interesting. Also, the background music is in Filipino, which is a typical thing in Filipino films. They show support for the Filipino artist and give importance to Filipino music. Another good characteristic about the film is its quality. The lighting complemented the dramatic scene of the love triangle and the camera work when they were had a fight was good since you could see all of them so your focus would be on the three of them not individually. The setting was appropriate for the movie. You can really see that it is in America that they shot the film so you would know that it is not a low budget film, they even got Americans to act in the movie.

All in all, even though that the film is not that good for me and the storyline is a bit confusing, the acting of the characters, the setting, the lighting and the right use music during dramatic scenes made up for their faults.

A-Team

I was not familiar about the TV series A-Team not until I have watched the movie. A-Team was a group of Rangers and together they fight with a well-planned strategy and brute force also with a little comedy into it because of Murdoch, their pilot who was insane. They were on a mission and they were framed so they are in a battle fighting for their freedom.

I may not be familiar with the TV series but I really liked the movie. The characters of the movie played their roles well that after researching what the A-Team is all about, I could say that they were fit to play their characters. Although the plot was a bit confusing, the action sequence did a good job. There was action from the beginning of the film until the end. You won’t get bored and you’ll keep on laughing because of Murdoch. The special effects gave it more juice and by the end of the movie you’ll still want more.

A-Team is a nice action movie since you won’t get bored and it will even make you think especially in the part where they are going to expose their enemy.

Rekrut

The film REKRUT is about a story of a group of men where they have been recruited to train to become soldiers and to perform a special mission after their training.

The setting of the movie is in an open place where there are trees; I think they are in a forest, also near the sea and nowhere close to a city. It is where they are going to train, and the shot at the start were mostly wide shots to give the viewers an idea of the place. The lighting was good since they usually shoot in the morning so basically they just use the sun; also to give it a natural look since they were training and it was also good when night came since in my opinion there were no shots that lack in lighting. The costumes were appropriate since I recognize it because I had one when I was in the ROTC. I think that their uniforms differ from the officials so that it would distinguish them; training, and from the soldiers who conducted the training. The behavior of the trainees to their officers were respectful since they are just subordinates and if they do not respect there official like one did in the movie, he was hang upside down. The acting of the officers was just right showing the trainees who the boss is in that place.

In motion speed, there was this scene where they are supposed to train to defend their selves. While they are fighting, it was in slow motion and I think it is in slow motion so that it would give a dramatic effect to the scene. There were a lot of visual effects like the explosions; also the shots fired when the soldiers were ambushed and many more. But I guess, in a low budget film, you won’t be amazed with their visual effects, especially when an officer threw a grenade just a few meters from them and exploded in an instant. In reality, there is a split second where the grenade will go off, not immediately. There was a lot of dolly/track movement especially when they are training because the camera goes with them while they are jogging. A close up shot was used when they are in a fight so that the audiences get a feeling what’s it like and eye angle shot when they are talking and eating because when they are eating they should be seated straight and eyes up front.

Inception

Watching the trailer of Inception made me confuse of what the movie is all about so I did not bother watching it until a lot of my friends were talking about it and saying that the movie is really nice. It got me wondering what it is about and made me want to watch it as well. Inception is a story of getting into dreams of other people and getting or extracting information that they do not want to give in the real world. They go into your dreams and make you think that it is the real world and before you know it, they have got what they’re after for.

Inception was the kind of movie where you should not fall asleep since every part is connected and once you miss it; you’ll be asking questions like what my sister did because she fell asleep in the movie house. The movie is really good and the characters did a good job too. They did their part well and the special effects and the sound along with it heightened its suspense that got the audience at the edge of their seat. The camera angles and camera movement made it like you were in a different world and that anything is possible. The part where the dream within a dream within a dream and so on was the best part for me because it did not only get you thinking but it also give you the rush because of the series of events that is happening. Editing played a big role in the movie since one can lose track of the events and get confused if it is badly edited.

Inception is really a great movie and it made the audience talk about it all over the net because of its ending that makes a lot of different interpretations one could possibly think of. You would want to watch it again for the second time even third time maybe.

Karate Kid

I have watched the past Karate Kid movies and the recent Karate Kid was almost the same except for some points like the style of the martial arts that Dre Parker, played by Jaden Smith, and Mr. Han played by Jackie Chan, used. If I’m not mistaken, there is different martial arts style that is named after an animal and the style they used was I think the snake style since Jaden was copying the movements of the snake on the mountain while the style used by Ralph Macchio in the older Karate Kid was the crane style. Nevertheless I think Jaden Smith pulled it of and did a good job in his role also Jackie Chan as his mentor.

The camera works on Karate Kid was good since they get you to follow the action on every move of the character and there are wide shots so that you can see both of the actors fighting. There were close ups that you could see their actions right in front of you especially when Jaden Smith shows attitude on his face while he does a blow to the chest of his opponent like Mr. Han always say to put more force into his push. But there is one thing that still confuses me; it is the part where Jaden Smith does his special snake move on his opponent. You can see that his distance to his opponent is a bit far and you will wonder how his foot connected with the opponent when it is somewhat impossible to happen. I guess that’s what editing and special effects do; to make the audience believe what they see on screen.

Overall, I think the film was well executed and the characters fit their role especially Jackie Chan, even though his role was supposed to be serious, he marked it with his acting and made it to be a bit funny, like the usual Jackie Chan role.

Ip Man

Ip Man 2 wass not what I expected it to be. It was an action movie so I expected that there would be a lot of fight scenes. Although I liked the part when Ip beat the hell out of the English boxer, I would still pick the first movie Ip man because of having beaten a huge number of opponents.

Dennis To played Ip Man and he does a good job in his character. He acts out really well and when it comes to fighting, you would really watch his every move. I watched Ip Man before because I heard that he was the mentor of the Young Dragon Bruce Lee(Li Xiaolong). I have watched films about Bruce lee and his martial arts compared to Ip’s martial arts were a bit different, in the sense that Ip’s was faster and Bruce Lee’s was a bit slower but was a hard hitter. The last part of Ip Man 2 was funny since it showed a small kid who later on was known as Bruce Lee.
The camera work on both Ip Man and Ip Man 2 was good. You can see and follow the movements of the characters while they fight and every punch or kick; it is accompanied by sound effects that heighten the sound of every punch and kick they make as if you were really in the film.

Both Ip Man and Ip Man 2 were really nice as a whole. It is not only an action movie but it also has drama and it included the importance of nationalism and respect to others. You will not just get the rush when you see the fight scenes but also get the drama behind the values that the movie teaches the audience.

Zombieland

Zombielnd is another zombie movie as you can see in the title. I thought it was a horror film because I was not able to see the trailer but it turns out to be a comedy film. The story is about a college student, Columbus played by Jesse Eisenberg, who tries to survive everyday life by avoiding zombies and following the rules he had made in order for him to live longer. Along his journey he met Tallahassee, played by Woody Harrelson, who is on a mission to find Twinkies. At first it was weird but as the movie goes, Tallahassee is really obsessed with Twinkies. Then they met Wichita, Emma Stone, who eventually became Columbus’ girlfriend and her little sister Little Rock, Abigail Breslin.

The characters in zombieland were funny that while watching the film, you would not see it as a zombie movie. It was more of like a game battling your way to the finish line with your newly found buddies. All of them except Abigail Breslin were fit for their roles because I think that Abigail should stick to movies like “Little Miss Sunshine”. She was not fit for the “Little Rock” role because she looked innocent and plain. Little Rock should have some attitude like maybe, Dakota Fanning. It would have been more interesting if it were Dakota Fanning who played the role Little Rock.
At first, I had the feeling that the film would be scary but since at the start of the movie it was funny, the suspense feeling was gone but then every time that the zombies should make you shout or get shocked, I guess it was the editing that did the job and before you realize it, your laughing already.

Zombieland was a nice movie for me but it had no sense. It is just your typical comedy/horror film that at the end of the day, you have a smile on your face even though it had no sense. If you are just looking for laughs then you should watch this movie.
